Sewage Treatment Plant for Australia’s Largest Private Infrastructure Project
In 2014, True Water designed and installed the Kubota sewage treatment plant for the Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport and Business Park, the largest private infrastructure project in Australia. Wagners began construction of the jet-capable airport and accompanying business park in 2013.
The first greenfield public airport built since Melbourne Tullamarine over 47 years ago, the airport was completed in 19 months. It is designed to cater for large jets up to 747 size, facilitating the largest of airfreight aircraft into and out of the region. Wellcamp Business Park is a highly attractive business destination with wide landscaped streets, park lands and first class presentation of buildings.
Since that time, the capacity of the airport has continued to expand with over 80 weekly services through Qantaslink, Airnorth and Regional Express. It has become a major inland freight hub with plans to develop more services in the near future. The business park has also seen immense growth including multiple large workshops/factories, a major milk processing plant and plans for a new RSPCA depot.
Ongoing compliance using world leading Japanese technology
Throughout this time, the Kubota sewage treatment plant installed by True Water has continued to operate at a high level. True Water has continued to work closely with Wagners to ensure the ongoing compliance of the sewage treatment infrastructure at Wellcamp. Due to the high quality Japanese treatment technology utilised by the plant, the system has maintained a very high level of treatment.
The maintenance team from True Water service the system regularly to keep all components running at their optimum and ensure the continuing low cost of operation. The quality of the treated water is tested along with the various components of the treatment system. As well as bi-monthly scheduled servicing, the team has been working with Wagners to expand the capacity of the sewage treatment plant in line with the growth of the development.
This is possible due to the scalable nature of the Kubota product. The consultants at True Water designed the treatment plant to be installed in stages. This means the modular systems can be added to the existing treatment infrastructure in line with the growth of the Wagners development. The infrastructure was designed to treat the sewage and wastewater generated by this large scale industrial community as it continues to expand.
The next stage of expansion for this private infrastructure project
The Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport has been selected as the site for Australia’s first QANTAS pilot academy. It is due to receive its first students in September 2019. The inaugural class will be housed at temporary accommodations at the University of Southern Queensland while facilities such as hangars, classrooms and student accommodation are being built at Wellcamp Airport. As part of the new expansion, True Water will undertake works to add a further 50kL’s of capacity to the Wagners sewage treatment facility as part of the staged delivery of their system.
