True Water attends 25th Australia Fiji Business Council Forum

The 25th Australia Fiji Business Council Forum was held at the Marriott Hotel Brisbane in October 2019. The Forum theme was “Australia and Fiji: Business Partners Across Three Centuries”. This reflects the historic and enduring nature of the business relationship between Australia and Fiji. True Water attended the forum and took part in the various information sessions over two days.

The Forum provides businesses with information on current and prospective opportunities in Fiji.  Additionally, it provides an opportunity to bring Australian and Fijian businesses more closely together.  This builds on the already long history of partnership and co-operation.

The first AFBC Forum was held in 1987 and is now held annually.  It facilitates the meeting of Australian and Fijian businesses and government. It is also a wonderful opportunity to network and learn.

An Opportunity to Learn and Grow

Representatives of the Australian and Fijian governments delivered presentations at the forum.  Expert speakers in business, the economy and climate change also presented informative talks.

Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama delivered the Fijian Government keynote address. He stated, “Fiji’s ten years of consecutive economic growth, alongside the host of incentives designed to make the Fijian market attractive for foreign investors, means that there is no better time to invest in our beloved country.”

The Prime Minister also emphasised that Fiji welcomed investment in Fiji by Australian investors. He encouraged Australian companies to closely examine the opportunities in Fiji. These opportunities include Fiji’s location as a commercial hub for the Pacific. There has never been a more exciting time to be doing business between Australia and Fiji.

Fiji-Australia Vuvale Partnership

A hot topic of discussion was the new Vuvale Partnership. The partnership commenced in September 2019 between the Australian and Fijian Governments. Both Fiji’s and Australia’s Prime Ministers were present for the signing, highlighting the importance of the partnership.

Vuvale is a Fijian word for “family”. Vuvale emphasises how Fiji and Australia are not just neighbours but family as well.  It is also a recognition of the desire of both governments to have a structure for managing the bilateral relationship across all its aspects. Another desire is to create some certainty within governments about how the relationship will be conducted.
