PROJECT DETAILS

Location:

Channel Island, NT

Product:

Kubota MBBR

Capability:

Supply of WWTP and effluent dispersal system

In 2016, True Water delivered a Kubota Wastewater System for the Channel Island Power Station treatment plant project. Channel Island is the largest power station in the Northern Territory, Australia, with a capacity of approximately 600 megawatts (MW).

Then, in 2023, Territory Generation upgraded the WWTP to handle increasing flows and adapt to site changes. Consequently, True Water completed the manufacture and assembly of the Kubota sewage treatment plant (STP) and essential components under ISO-certification within four weeks of the order.

Manufacture and assembly adhered to strict quality assurance protocols, eliminating risks associated with onsite construction and fabrication. This standardised production process provided surety of operation and guaranteed a performance-specific warranty.

Wastewater treatment plant design package

True Water developed a design package for the power station treatment plant. Firstly, to meet project-specific requirements, we assessed influent strength, treated water quality, and site constraints to reaffirm the appropriate plant specification. Secondly, our final design balanced technical specifications, operational performance, and technological complexity.

Furthermore, True Water offers unique infrastructure delivery options tailored to project needs. Supervised installation allowed the Territory Generation greater flexibility and control of capital expenditure. The client’s onsite project team handled the civil, construction, service activities, while our technicians oversaw the entire process.

Additionally, the STP was tested to ensure compliance with the manufacturer’s guidelines, including quality assurance checks of electrical, communications, and hydraulic systems. After testing, True Water provided onsite training to the project team to establish a solid understanding of the day to day operation and maintenance and inspection requirements.

Advanced and reliable effluent treatment

Selected specifically for the project, the Kubota MBBR offers advanced and reliable effluent treatment with several key advantages. The STP is designed for peak flow management, is easy to operate, cost-effective, and has a compact footprint.

Installed underground with sealed gatic lids, the WWTP boasts a high-quality finish and operates silently without odour. Importantly, our design allows for scalability, with additional modules available to meet increasing hydraulic requirements.

True Water ensured quality assurance and comprehensive documentation during STP commissioning, including rigorous operational checks and detailed reports. We also provided warranties, an owner manual, and drawings to ensure long-term system performance and reliability.

Ensuring safety and compliance

True Water’s Integrated Environmental Management System ensured compliance and prioritised public health and environmental protection. Our system operates autonomously and requires limited maintenance. True Water’s expert technicians provide ongoing asset management services.

True Water exclusively partners with TELEmi remote asset telemetry monitoring, which offers accurate, immediate, real-time data through an online portal. This allows our team to deliver 24-hour operational security and regulatory compliance.

Finally, the client now enjoys the benefits of a sustainable biological wastewater treatment system. Supported by 50 years of Japanese wastewater research and development, the MBBR ensures efficient wastewater management. Operating autonomously with maintenance intervals every 60 or 90 days, the MBBR stands at the forefront of commercial wastewater treatment systems.
